About Us

Mental health refers to cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well-being. Although not seen physically, mental health is very important to the security of humans. In recent years, mental health has become a divisive topic in the minds of many. According to the World Health Organization, over one-fourth of people will be affected by mental or neurological disorders in their lifetime. Yet, many of these people won’t seek professional help due to the stigma attached to mental illness. Stigma is a mark of disgrace or infamy, and this creates shame in those wanting help. However, issues with mental health have been found to be prevalent among students. A study in 2016 found that 39% of students have been struggling with mental illness. Stressors in schools include pressures from society, parents, and education. Especially in high school, this is important, as students are still developing and in the midst of puberty. The teenage brains aren't fully developed until the age of 25. Teenagers react differently to stress than adults will. Therefore, we have decided to create a club for high-schoolers to talk about mental health and spread awareness. Mental health is not talked about enough in our country and starting this club is just one small step in a large discussion.

In short, the mission of this club is to educate students on mental health, raise awareness for this topic that is not talked about nearly enough, and end the stigma around mental health itself.
